HN4U's Privacy Policy

Information collected

The only information that the HN4U app collects or stores is the list of stations that you create along with their custom groupings, and their associated telemetry data, and your location data (if you provide it).

If you provide your location data, it is only stored locally on the device, and is never sent off the device.

MesoWest

If you would like to use MesoWest stations, then you will need to provide your MesoWest API token in app settings, and thus, that information is stored locally as well.

Please note that if you provide a MesoWest API token, that information will be sent with each API request to MesoWest.

Providing a MesoWest API token is not required to use HN4U, however, without it, you will be limited to only NRCS SNOTEL stations.

How the data is used

HN4U uses the station identifiers to make an API request with either the NRCS or MesoWest, who in turn give the HN4U app the relevant telemetry data.

What data is stored where?

HN4U does not send any of your data off of the device except for when making API calls to the NRCS or MesoWest using the station identifiers that correspond with those in your stations list.

Location data

HN4U does ask for your permission to use your location the first time that you open up the map on the "New Station" screen. You can choose to deny that, and the map's location will default to Mount Hood, OR, USA.

As you pan and zoom on the map, some information is stored locally on your device such that the next time you add a station, your map will be centered on the place that you last left it.
